TODAY IN PARLIAMENT:
When GWR moved in at Breeze a huge battle kicked off with fans of the radio station bombarding MP's and The Radio Authority with complaints. A public meeting was held at the Westcliff Palace Theatre. I even got a mention in a House of Commons debate, recorded in Hansard, the official record of parliamentary proceedings.
RAY GOES TO NORFOLK:
Redundancy isn't a pleasant experience, but there is usually life after it occurs - and for me it did me a big favour. GWR wanted me to stay with them until it was convienient for them to let me go - I had other ideas, and out of the blue came an offer from a smaller commercial radio group. Tindle radio wanted the soon to be advertised commercial radio licence for North Norfolk - would I help them?
Yes I would.
..AND STAYS WHERE HE IS:
"We want you to stay with Breeze until the new year", said GWR, "Sorry", I replied, "I'm off at the end of the week .... but I'll be freelance next week, so if you'd like to give me a contract to run your radio station for three months I'll take it"
"Yes please" was the answer.
Revenge is sweet, I ran Breeze from Norfolk .. and it cost them more than they'd paid me before, but the magic had gone, I just did it for the money.
All's fair in love and radio management!
