Welcome to Ray Clark's website - Rayradio.co.uk
I presented the overnight show initially, but after a few months John Hayes moved to BBC Essex, I would work again with John in the future. I then replaced John, becoming the regular presenter of the afternoon show and introduced a number of features, including 'Old John'. John was extremely popular, he had a genuine 'old essex' accent and gave daily clues to his whereabouts in the county, "Hello together, where do you think I am today?". Listeners called in their hundreds to identify his location . So poular was Old John that we even ran listener coach trips around the county giving listeners the chance to meet the old fella!
From the afternoon show I moved onto mornings and then took over the breakfast show, programme controller Keith Rogers moving to mornings after many years of presenting breakfast . Over the years that I spent at Breeze I think I presented every programme at one time or another and when Keith left the company I became the guy in charge of the output and the music. I'd gone from the overnight guy to running it.
Nothing stays the same in radio and it was decided to tweak the format and the radio stations name on a number of occasions. The format went from variety, to old gold, new gold , possibly even tarnished gold ! We went from Light and Easy Breeze AM to All time favourites and Love songs on The Breeze to All of your favourites on Breeze, but with each change our team did the business and got the listeners.
